Certification requirements cover Airport Firefighter and related driver/operator qualifications. Mandatory experience includes 3–5 years in a combined department with Title 5, ANG, and NC employees, plus SIDA-area exposure and coordination with FAA facilities.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience or equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-05) in the Federal service.
• Duties may include controlling or extinguishing fires, rescue operations, detecting or eliminating hazards, and operating fire communications equipment.
• Certification by the DoD Firefighter Certification system as Airport Firefighter (I, II), Hazmat Ops, and various Apparatus Driver Operator qualifications (some optional).
• Time-In-Grade requirements apply if you are a current Federal employee; SF-50 must be submitted.

Responsibilities

• Control or extinguish fires in a structured fire department or brigades.
• Conduct rescue operations and mobility procedures during emergencies.
• Identify and mitigate fire hazards to protect personnel and property.
• Operate fire communications and related equipment during incidents.
