Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of firefighting experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Valid Class B Driver's License (Must be 21 Years of Age).
  • North Carolina EMT credential required.
  • American Heart Association CPR certification.
  • Completion of NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800.
  • Certified NC Firefighter Level 2.
  • Certified NC Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD).
  • Certified NC Driver Operator Pumps.
  • Certified NC Driver Operator Aerials.
  • Certified NC Technical Rescuer.
  • Certified NC Technical Rescuer - Vehicle Rescue.
  • All non-NC certifications must have NCOSFM reciprocity.
  • Successful completion of Pender EMS & Fire, Inc Probationary Academy.
  • Completion of NIMS/ICS 300 & 400.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Emergency apparatus to and from emergency incidents safely.
  • With required training met, supervise station personnel in absence of Company Officer.
  • Perform all essential functions of a firefighter.
  • Operate pumping equipment safely and effectively.
  • Participate in fire prevention, pre-planning, inspections, and fire equipment testing activities.
  • Maintains familiarity with specialized equipment.
  • Understand the geography and street layouts of the service districts.
  • Conduct daily inspections of vehicles, radios, and equipment to maintain readiness.
  • Report any unsafe operating conditions of vehicles, radios, and equipment.
  • Attend mandatory training as required by NCOEMS and Pender EMS & Fire, Inc.

Summary

Under the general supervision of the Fire Lieutenant, higher-ranking officer, or acting of his/her own volition, the Fire Engineer is responsible for ensuring his/her assigned apparatus, equipment and facilities are maintained in appropriate readiness to respond to a variety of life saving emergency calls as well as the safe and efficient operation of firefighting and rescue apparatus in response to emergencies and at the emergency scene; regulating the water pressure from an apparatus; checking apparatus for proper operation and general condition; and performing routine maintenance apparatus and equipment. The Fire Engineer may also perform fire prevention, general facility, public education and other related programs and services.

  • Refuels vehicle and reports any unsafe operating conditions of vehicles, radios, and equipment.
  • Attend mandatory training as required by NCOEMS and Pender EMS & Fire, inc.
  • Perform daily station duties; ensure stations are kept clean and orderly.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Eligible for Employment in the United States
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Class B Driver's License (Must be 21 Years of Age)
  • Successful completion of background screening and driving record check
  • Must successfully pass urine drug screening
  • Three (3) years of firefighting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform in the position
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted North Carolina EMT credential
  • Possession of a valid American Heart Association (AHA) cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Certification
  • Completion of NIMS/ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
  • Certified NC Firefighter Level 2
  • Certified NC Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD)
  • Certified NC Driver Operator Pumps

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Very Heavy Work: Exerting up to 200 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision acuity and the ability to adjust his or her focus, allowing a broad field of vision.
