  • Certification by the DoD Firefighter Certification system as Airport Firefighter (I, II), Hazmat Ops, and various Apparatus Driver Operator qualifications (some optional).
  • Time-In-Grade requirements apply if you are a current Federal employee; SF-50 must be submitted.

Responsibilities

  • Control or extinguish fires in a structured fire department or brigades.
  • Conduct rescue operations and mobility procedures during emergencies.
  • Identify and mitigate fire hazards to protect personnel and property.
  • Operate fire communications and related equipment during incidents.

Job description

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a FIREFIGHTER (CREW CHIEF-DRIVER OPERATOR) (TITLE 5), Position Description Number T6315000 and is part of the NC ANG, National Guard (ANG-145th CES / MD 01082957 / 01082971).

General Experience:

Specialized Experience:

Must possess at least one year of specialized experience or equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-05), in the Federal service in the normal line of progression for the occupation. Experience that demonstrated the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Such duties may include (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level*

Certifications:

Must be certified by the DoD Firefighter Certification system as Airport Firefighter (includes Firefighter I, II), Hazmat Operations (includes Hazmat Awareness), Apparatus Driver Operator- Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Apparatus Driver Operator- Pumper, Apparatus Driver Operator- Aerial*, Apparatus Driver Operator- Mobile Water Supply (MWS)*. (asterisk means optional)

Time-In-Grade Requirement:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 Level. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Mandatory Required

Mandatory Required Experience:
  • 3-5 years experience operating in a combination department with Title 5, Air National Guard and State of North Carolina employees.
  • Experience operating at a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) controlled Index E airport with Air Force, Army, Commercial Carrier, private aviation, and corporately owned aircraft.
  • Experience operating in Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge required areas under the supervision of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
  • Familiarity with the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS).
  • 3-5 years supervisory or management experience to include Geographically Separated Unit (GSU) which provides certification training to all Air National Guard firefighters.
