Job summary

Palmetto State Armory in Charleston, SC is seeking a Firearms Manager to oversee gunroom operations, inventory, compliance, and sales leadership. You will ensure ATF adherence, manage paperwork, and lead gun counter activities with store staff to deliver a professional buying experience.

You will also coordinate with management on opening/closing duties, cash handling, and interdepartmental improvements to drive efficiency and profits.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma is required.
  • Must have at least 9 months’ experience in retail or service industry.
  • Strong knowledge of firearms, ATF compliance, and customer service skills required.
  • Proficient skills with computers, Excel and Outlook required.
  • Able to lead, motivate, mentor, communicate and generally interact with people in a positive way.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; looks for continuous improvement and implementation.
  • Sound decision making abilities and takes responsibility.
  • Able to train others and demonstrate strong leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication both orally and written.

Responsibilities

  • Control all aspects of the acquisition and disposition process for all firearms as required by ATF and PSA regulations.
  • Maintain the gun room in appearance and inventory.
  • Complete accurate paperwork and transactions according to company policies and procedures, to include 4473 paperwork and redundancies.
  • Complete inventory counts as needed.
  • Balance the personnel and organizational needs of the store to ensure the utmost efficiency; delegate tasks as needed.
  • Create an outstanding buying experience for the customer.
  • Assist with all functions within a retail store.
  • Putting the guns on display and maintaining their presentation.
  • Execute floor leadership—own the gun counter with the management team.
  • Work with Sales Associates to problem solve customer issues.
  • Open, close, and operate the retail facility, including cash handling and deposits.
  • Work interdepartmentally to continually improve operations and grow our business.
  • Facilitate change and new program implementation by effectively communicating new direction from corporate level.
  • Assist in other tasks, duties, or projects as assigned by management

Firearms Manager

JOB PURPOSE

Responsible for firearm inventory and maintaining the FFL’s compliance standards set forth by the ATF and PSA. Assist the store management team with store operations. Other responsibilities include gun counter sales, used firearms, firearm displays, and other duties as required. This position is primarily responsible for the day to day operations of the gunroom including but not limited to accurate and efficient acquisitions, dispositions and inventorying. Attention to detail is essential for success in this position as the successful Firearms Manager is solely responsible in this role in all aspects relating to the Gunroom, including compliance with ATF.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Control all aspects of the acquisition and disposition process for all firearms as required by ATF and PSA regulations.
  • Maintain the gun room in appearance and inventory.
  • Complete accurate paperwork and transactions according to company policies and procedures, to include 4473 paperwork and redundancies.

    • Determining, distributing, and directing workload for gun counter as needed.
    • Be the one other Sales Associates look to for guidance on how to succeed – greet all customers in a professional, friendly, and timely manner, including answering phones and directing customer inquiries. Set the ideal example of an exceptional Sales Associate.
    • Recognize and identify to the management team where there are areas a staff member needs coaching and/or development.
    • Act on the behalf of the Store Manager/Assistant Store Manager in their absence.
      • Including but not limited to: Balance the personnel and organizational needs of the store to ensure the utmost efficiency; delegate tasks as needed.
    • Create an outstanding buying experience for the customer.
    • Assist with all functions within a retail store.
    • Putting the guns on display and maintaining their presentation.
    • Execute floor leadership—own the gun counter with the management team

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may require regular evening and weekend work and may include holidays as well. As a member of leadership in the store you may have to deal with challenging customers from time to time.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time: Reading, writing, and speaking on all necessary forums, hearing, standing, walking, lifting up to 70 lb, climbing, stooping and sitting. Must be able to operate a forklift.
