Job description

JOB OVERVIEW:
Support and consistently reinforce the Mission and Core Values of M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc. A laborer is an entry-level position assisting with maintaining the site and assisting with installation as required. This includes ductwork for HVAC systems, plumbing or piping for industrial and commercial applications, using tools and machinery under the direction of a superintendent or foreman.

NO PERDIEM OR RELOCATION IS AVAILABLE FOR THIS POSITION. SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL RESIDE WITHIN 60-MILES OF DECATUR, AL.

HIRING FOR GOVERNMENT SITE ON THE REDSTONE ARSENAL. MUST HAVE CLEAN BACKGROUND WITHIN THE LAST 10-YEARS.


FUNCTIONAL DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS:
The primary role of a laborer is to execute various physical tasks, load and unload materials, and prepare job sites.

  1. Safety Compliance: Following all safety guidelines and using appropriate protective equipment to prevent injuries.
  2. Reading Drawings: Read drawings to understand and identify material requirements and installation processes with supervision.
  3. Measuring and Cutting: Using various tools to measure, cut, bend, and shape materials according to fit or offset with supervision.
  4. Site Set-Up: Unload and deliver material as directed, collect materials to leave the site clean and organized.
  5. Installation: Performs minor fastening of metal pieces together using various tools and techniques such as bolting sections with collars or flanges with supervision.
  6. Maintenance: Maintains clean job site by sweeping, picking up debris and scrap material.
  7. Quality Assurance: Assist in testing systems to ensure they meet specifications and code with direction from the superintendent, foreman, or tradesmen.
  8. Equipment: Using and maintaining equipment under supervision.
  9. Communication: Work alongside other construction professionals, such as plumbers and electricians.
  10. Assist with sheet metal installations: Optimize performance and balance air supply per specifications with supervision.
  11. Develop understanding of systems: Industrial codes and standards.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  1. Minimum of high school education or GED equivalent, or trade school.
  2. Required to read and write English, follow verbal instructions, and use simple math.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Must be detail-oriented and organized.
  5. Must be able to follow instructions.
  6. Strong TEAM player.


PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:
Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc., above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.

MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
Employee may be required to do the following: following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; planning work and selecting proper tools; comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects; picturing and evaluating solid objects from drawing or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked; following oral and/or written directions, plans, and blueprints; reading; writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.


WORK ENVIRONMENT FACTORS:

  1. Location: industrial construction sites and/or office environment.
  2. Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways.
  3. Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominately indoor climate; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.; potential exposure to chemical substances.
