Job summary

Chatham County Fire Department in Coastal Georgia seeks a Fire Training Coordinator – Lieutenant to lead and coordinate department training programs, recruit academy instruction, and ensure certification compliance across a 242 square mile service area. The role supports instructor development and safety training aligned with NFPA and GFSTC standards.

Under the direction of the Fire Training Coordinator–Captain, the Lieutenant develops lesson plans, conducts live-fire exercises, maintains

Qualifications

• Associate's degree from an accredited college or university (education/experience equivalent accepted).
• Four years of continuous, full-time municipal/county/state fire service.
• Four years as certified front-line structural firefighter.
• Two years as pumper driver/operator and two as aerial driver/operator if assigned to a truck company.
• One year as acting Fire Lieutenant of an operational structural firefighting company.
• One year leading instructor experience in fire-related topics.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, deliver, document, and evaluate training programs.
• Coordinate recruit academy instruction and company-level training.
• Develop lesson plans, live-fire drills, simulations, and competency evaluations.
• Maintain training records, certifications, and state reporting requirements.
• Lead instructors for driver/operator, company officer development, survival, rapid intervention, and IC programs.
• Evaluate training effectiveness and identify program improvements.
• Support recruitment, development, mentoring, and evaluation of department instructors.
• Oversee maintenance and readiness of training facilities, props, and equipment.
