Job summary

City of Palm Beach Gardens is seeking a Training Instructor to ensure proficiency across all emergency response disciplines and lead professional development for Fire Rescue personnel. You will teach firefighting and EMS training, deliver structured classes, and oversee safety and compliance during sessions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of fire service experience.
  • Associates degree in Fire Science or EMS preferred.
  • Must possess Florida Live Fire Training Instructor 1.
  • Florida Fire Service Instructor II as required.
  • Paramedic certification required.
  • Current AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications.
  • Valid Florida driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver fire and EMS training for compliance and continuing education.
  • Accurately document training hours for compliance.
  • Assist with recruit classes, Driver Engineer, Officer Development Academies, live fire training, and EMS continuing education programs.
  • Assist the Division Chief of Training with maintenance of the training facilities, equipment and EMS training equipment.
  • Conduct safety surveys of fire/EMS equipment, supplies, and training areas; identify and correct deficiencies.
  • Assemble training aids.
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.

Florida Live Fire Training Instructor 1
State of Florida Firefighter Compliance Certification
State of Florida Fire Service Instructor II
State of Florida Paramedic Certification

Job description

This position is primarily focused on ensuring job proficiency in all emergency response disciplines and supporting ongoing professional development. It is responsible for teaching and implementing fundamental firefighting and EMS training, as well as delivering structured classes for all Fire Rescue personnel. Extensive knowledge of firefighting fundamentals, fire ground safety, EMS patient care, medical protocols, and associated tools, equipment, and apparatus is required. The Training Instructor shall have direct command over all personnel during training sessions, subject to regulations of the department and the direction of the Division Chief of Training and Professional Development. This position is responsible for ensuring job proficiencies as they relate to all emergency responses and professional development.

  • Deliver fire and EMS training required for compliance, re-certification or continuing education to fire rescue personnel with varying levels of experience and training, so that learning objectives are achieved
  • Accurately document training hours for compliance
  • Assist with recruit classes, Driver Engineer, Officer Development Academies, live fire training, and EMS continuing education programs
  • Assist the Division Chief of Training with maintenance of the training facilities, equipment and props and EMS training equipment
  • Conducts safety surveys of fire/EMS equipment, supplies, and training areas; identifies and corrects all deficiencies
  • Assembles training aids
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned
  • Associates degree in Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, or closely related field preferred, and
  • Must have 10 years of fire service experience, and
  • Must be a Florida State Live Fire Training Instructor 1, and
  • State of Florida Firefighter Compliance Certification as required in compliance with the criteria set forth by the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal, and
  • State of Florida Fire Service Instructor II as required in compliance with the criteria set forth by the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal,and
  • Must possess a State of Florida Paramedic Certification, and
  • Must maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) certifications including BLS, ACLS, and PALS (or equivalent), and be capable of instructing these disciplines, and
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's License
