Job summary

University of Utah is seeking a Fire Systems Technician I–III to support inspection, testing, and maintenance of campus fire protection and life-safety systems. Positions range from Level I to Level III, with increasing responsibilities and NICET/State certifications encouraged.

Level I requires little experience and a high school diploma, while Levels II and III demand 1–3 years and 3+ years of related work respectively, plus NICET/IFC knowledge and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering related field or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education).
  • Two years related experience in fire alarm or fire sprinkler system installation, testing and maintenance required.
  • NICET Level II or higher certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspections of fire alarm, sprinkler, and suppression systems.
  • Support routine testing and preventive maintenance.
  • Replace defective components (detectors, valves, extinguishers).
  • Maintain inspection records and compliance documentation.
  • Respond to alarms and assist with emergency assessments.
