Job summary

Thompson Safety is seeking a Fire Service Technician responsible for installation, maintenance, and inspection of fire extinguishers. The role may expand to testing and repairing fire suppression systems (Kitchen Hoods, Paint Booth, etc.).

Responsibilities include annual maintenance, accurate inspection reporting, and collaboration with customers and contractors to ensure safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED; relevant fire extinguisher/systems training preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand/power tools.
• Ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.
• Proven experience as portable fire extinguisher and/or fire suppression technician.

Responsibilities

• Perform annual maintenance/inspections of fire extinguishers.
• Determine proper type, quantity, and placement of extinguishers based on hazard/occupancy.
• Exchange extinguishers that require service; replace obsolete/damaged units.
• Install fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall hangers.
• Indicate type, size, and location of extinguishers on reports.
• Perform semi-annual inspections of restaurant/industrial suppression systems.
• Document findings and note deficiencies on inspection reports.
• Communicate non-compliance issues to customers.
• Collaborate with customers, contractors, and team members to ensure effective use of extinguishers and systems.
• Build partnerships to grow the business within the industry.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform a nnual maintenance/inspections of fire extinguishers.


• Determine proper type, quantity, and placement of fire extinguishers based on hazard/occupancy classification.


• Exchange fire extinguishers that require service; replace obsolete/damaged units.


• Installation of fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall hangers.

Experience & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required . Certifications or training in fire extinguisher and fire suppression systems is strongly preferred.


• Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand/power tools.


• Knowledge of basic electricity and the ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.


• Proven experience working as a portable fire extinguisher and/or fire suppression technician.


• Proficiency in reading and interpreting NFPA standards (10, 17, 17a, 96), and technical manuals (Ansul, Amerex, CaptiveAire , etc.)


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.


• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.


• Maintain a v alid driver's license and ability to pass a drug and background check.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear and have full use of hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


• Ability to wor k from a ladder, and in some case, a man-lift.


• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel daily.
