Summary

The Fire Safety Technician is responsible for supporting fire prevention, emergency response, hazardous materials response, and fire protection activities within a lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility. This position plays a critical role in protecting employees, property, and operations through fire suppression, emergency preparedness, fire protection system inspections, and response to incidents involving fire, hazardous materials, medical emergencies, and other facility emergencies.

Summary

The Fire Safety Technician is responsible for supporting fire prevention, emergency response, hazardous materials response, and fire protection activities within a lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility. This position plays a critical role in protecting employees, property, and operations through fire suppression, emergency preparedness, fire protection system inspections, and response to incidents involving fire, hazardous materials, medical emergencies, and other facility emergencies.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine fire safety inspections to identify and mitigate potential fire and life safety hazards
  • Inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems including fire extinguishers, hydrants, sprinklers, suppression systems, alarms, and gas detection systems
  • Ensure emergency response equipment, fire protection systems, and response vehicles remain operational and ready for deployment
  • Support compliance with OSHA CFR 29 1910.156, NFPA 600 Ch. 5 Annex C Incipient levels (Incipient, Advanced Exterior, Interior Structural), EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulatory requirements
  • Conduct fire risk assessments related to lithium-ion battery manufacturing, storage, and facility operations
  • Support implementation and continuous improvement of emergency response plans and fire safety procedures
  • Assist with hot work permitting activities and ensure compliance with fire watch requirements
  • Respond to fire alarms, hazardous material incidents, medical emergencies, rescue situations, and other facility emergencies
  • Execute fire suppression and emergency response activities utilizing firefighting equipment, extinguishing agents, foam systems, and emergency response tools
  • Support evacuation efforts, rescue operations, and incident stabilization activities during emergencies
  • Coordinate with local fire departments, emergency responders, and mutual aid partners during emergency incidents
  • Follow established emergency communication protocols and Incident Command System (ICS) procedures during emergency events
  • Conduct fire safety training, emergency response drills, and evacuation exercises for facility personnel
  • Educate employees on fire prevention practices, emergency procedures, and workplace safety requirements
  • Participate in ongoing emergency response training, certifications, and continuous development programs
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, emergency responses, training, and regulatory compliance activities
  • Maintain regular and reliable on-site attendance and emergency response readiness
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain; Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Essential Employee Status

This position is designated as Essential Personnel. As such, you may be required to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime, and to respond to emergency call-outs, severe weather events, facility incidents, and operational disruptions to support business continuity and life safety operations.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Occupational Safety, or a related field preferred
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required, or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Incident Safety Officer (ISO) certification (NFPA) preferred
  • ICS 100 and IC... preferred
  • Firefighter I certification required
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations or Technician certification required
Experience
  • 3–5 years of experience in firefighting, industrial fire protection, emergency response, military fire service, or a related field required
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, chemical, utility, energy, or high-hazard environments preferred
  • Experience responding to emergency incidents and operating firefighting equipment required
  • Experience with fire protection systems inspection and maintenance preferred
  • Experience with hazardous materials response preferred

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for periods of up to 12 hours: structural firefighting turnout gear, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), safety glasses, steel-toed boots, nitrile and chemical-resistant gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, and chemical protective equipment as required
  • Must be able to repeatedly lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more
  • Must be able to repeatedly climb ladders, stairs, platforms, and elevated structures
  • Must be able to repeatedly crawl, kneel, crouch, stoop, bend, and reach overhead
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to operate firefighting, rescue, and emergency response equipment
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and adverse environmental conditions
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding emergency response activities while wearing full protective equipment
Work Environment
  • Work is performed within a manufacturing facility and may include production areas, utility areas, warehouses, outdoor environments, and emergency response scenes
  • Exposure to heat, smoke, loud noise, hazardous materials, chemicals, dust, and adverse weather conditions may occur
  • Work involves emergency response to fires, hazardous material incidents, medical emergencies, rescues, and other life safety events
  • Strict adherence to safety policies, emergency procedures, and PPE requirements is mandatory
  • Position may require shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime
