Job summary

LG Energy Solution Michigan Inc. (LGESMI) is seeking an Industrial Firefighter to join the Fire Brigade within the EHS department on a 12-hour Blue/Gold rotating shift.

The role provides frontline emergency response across the LG campus, including fires, medical emergencies, hazmat incidents, and technical rescues. The position involves fire prevention inspections, training, and equipment maintenance to improve site-wide emergency readiness.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Michigan Firefighter I & II Certification.
  • State of Michigan EMT License (preferred).
  • Knowledge of NFPA, MIOSHA, and IFC fire codes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazmat incidents, and rescue operations on LG campus property.
  • Operate fire suppression equipment, SCBAs, medical bags, AEDs, and industrial firefighting tools.
  • Conduct fire safety inspections and fire watch walkthroughs throughout campus facilities.
  • Support battery-related fire response protocols, including hot cell isolation and lithium-ion mitigation.
  • Maintain, inspect, and inventory firefighting equipment and response vehicles daily.
  • Administer Basic Life Support (BLS) care as an EMT until advanced care arrives.
  • Support and participate in monthly fire brigade training drills and continuing education.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including incident reports, inspection logs, and equipment checklists.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation coordination and post-incident debriefs.
  • Collaborate with the Fire Chief, Fire prevention technicians, and local mutual aid responders.
  • Assist with SOP development and improvements to brigade emergency response plans.
  • Monitor preventive maintenance programs and ensure compliance with fire codes and procedures.
  • Maintain maintenance records, equipment history, and documentation.
  • Participate in shutdown planning, turnaround activities, and emergency maintenance planning.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and safety teams to improve fire protection system reliability.
  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in fire protection codes.
  • Supervise Fire Safety team members with assigned activities.
  • Participate in fire protection construction observation visits.

Summary

As a key member of the Fire Brigade team within the EHS department, the Industrial Firefighter is responsible for providing frontline emergency response services across LG's industrial campus. This includes responding to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and technical rescues. The role also includes participating in fire prevention inspections, training, and equipment maintenance in support of continuous improvement of site-wide emergency preparedness. Firefighters work 12-hour shifts on a Blue/Gold rotating schedule to ensure 24/7 site coverage and emergency response readiness.

  • Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.

Qualifications:

  • Michigan Firefighter I & II Certification
  • 2 years’ experience at a full time or paid on call fire department
  • State of Michigan EMT License (preferred)
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must be able to wear full PPE including SCBA and work in high-heat or hazardous environments
  • Industrial, military, or municipal firefighting experience preferred
  • Strong will and desire to learn life safety and fire prevention systems.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in emergency response tactics and use of firefighting/rescue equipment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
  • Knowledge of NFPA, MIOSHA, and IFC fire codes preferred
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and adaptable to dynamic emergency situations
  • Experience with documentation, reporting, and equipment logs
  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery hazards is a strong plus
