Job summary

UMMC seeks a Fire Safety Specialist to perform inspections and maintenance on fire detection and suppression systems, following UMMC policies and state/federal standards. Provides guidance and training to staff on safety procedures and proper use of equipment.

The role requires a high school diploma with two years of fire safety experience, and post-hire HazMat/HazWoper certification within a year. Preference for degrees in fire science or related fields and NFPA/OSHA knowledge.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with two years' work experience in fire safety, safety compliance or emergency management.
  • HAZWOPER or Hazmat Technician certification required within one year after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews Life Safety plans and construction documents; conducts rounds and inspections.
  • Maintains life safety documents for accreditation purposes.
  • Leads fire response team and trains UMMC personnel in safety procedures.
  • Maintains documentation of inspections, tests, and fire equipment inventories.
  • Ensures compliance with NFPA, OSHA and other safety regulations.
