Job summary

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Fire Safety Specialist to support life safety and fire protection programs across campus. Under minimal supervision, you will inspect facilities, review plans for compliance, advise staff and contractors, and oversee vendors for fire protection systems.

You will develop and deliver fire-safety training, respond to emergencies, participate in drills, and manage projects while meeting regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent or an associate/bachelor degree in safety-related field.
• Experience: 5 years safety experience with high school or 3 years with an associate degree; or other stated combinations.

Responsibilities

• Investigates safety and environmental incidents, identifying causes and how to prevent recurrence.
• Ensures employee health and safety standards are met across the organization.
• Performs surveys of laboratories and facilities to ensure adherence to safety regulations and procedures.
• Identifies potential safety hazards, prepares reports, and mitigates deficiencies.
• Ensures proper use and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
