Job summary

State of Michigan is seeking Fire Safety Inspectors to ensure state facilities, institutions, and businesses comply with fire safety codes and state laws. The role mainly covers Detroit–Macomb, Livingston, Oakland, Monroe, and Wayne counties, with potential support in other areas as needed.

Core qualifications include Michigan Fire Inspector certification or NFPA Certified Fire Inspector I, plus the required driver’s license and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• High school diploma typically acquired.
• Fire Safety Inspector 9 requires 3 years of firefighter or related experience.
• Fire Safety Inspector E10 requires 2 years experience; Fire Safety Inspector 11 requires 3 years plus 1 year at E10.
• Alternate: 1 year inspection experience OR an associate degree may substitute two years.
