An established industry player is seeking a skilled Fire Inspector to ensure compliance with fire and life safety regulations. This role involves conducting inspections, testing safety systems, and providing training to firefighters. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fire safety inspections and emergency response. You will be responsible for protecting life and property through diligent inspections and enforcement of safety codes. This is skilled, specialized work of varied difficulty in conducting fire/life safety inspections. Employees in this class are responsible for the protection and preservation of life and property primarily by conducting fire/life safety inspections. Employees must utilize special skills and training to enforce all applicable local, state and federal regulations. Employees perform on scene fire investigation assistance, provide training to firefighters, and respond to emergency incidents as directed. Work is normally performed under the close supervision from an Officer assigned to Fire Prevention. Prevention Officers in accordance with defined policies and procedures. However, employee must be able to exercise some independent judgment in the performance of duties. Performance is reviewed by supervisors through direct observation of work while in progress and, upon completion, through review of records and reports, and in consultations with the employee and others knowledgeable of the employee's performance.
Inspects properties on a periodic basis for the presence of fire and life safety hazards to ensure compliance with local, state and federal fire and life safety code regulations.
Inspects and tests all fire and life safety suppression and detection systems, recognizes and takes action to correct hazardous conditions which present an immediate danger to life; documents inspection findings, reviews findings with property owners and supervisors.
Prepares and submits violation documents for code enforcement action.
Reviews construction drawings and specifications to correct fire and life safety problems.
Appears before the County and Municipal Code Enforcement Board, Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals and in Courts of Law to enforce fire and life safety code regulations.
Resolves complaints from the general public; assists and participates in public safety education programs.
Participates in specified training programs to maintain State and Local Inspector certifications and to increase knowledge of modern fire prevention theories and techniques.
Performs standby fire watch details to ensure that all fire and life safety regulations are adhered to. Provides on scene fire investigation assistance.
Responds to emergency incidents as directed.
Provides training to firefighters.
Performs related duties as directed.
Tasks may involve extended periods of time standing, walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling or crawling while performing Fire/Life Safety inspection duties. Tasks may involve the intermittent performance of extremely physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of standing, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, climbing, and that regularly involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects (50+ pounds). Some tasks are performed with potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements including, but not limited to, heat, humidity, inclement weather, loud noise, pathogens, violent behavior, and animals. Tasks are performed within the interior of buildings under construction, existing buildings and structures, exterior inspections of properties, marinas, schools, fire and emergency scenes where heightened awareness to surroundings and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents. Personal protection equipment applies in the preservation of life and property, as does special equipment including, but not limited to, self-contained breathing apparatus equipment (SCBA) and safety gear.
