Job summary

KBR is seeking a Fire Systems Engineer (Contingency) to design, implement, test, and maintain fire protection and life safety systems across facilities, ensuring compliance with NFPA codes, industry standards, and client requirements.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and AHJs to develop effective fire protection solutions, perform risk assessments, support commissioning, and drive continuous improvements in fire and life safety performance. Contingent upon award.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related.
• Minimum 3 years of experience designing, maintaining, or managing fire protection and life safety systems.
• Working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards (NFPA 13/20/25/72/101).
• Experience with fire alarm, sprinkler, suppression, and detection system design and operation.
• Proficiency with engineering design software and AutoCAD/Revit or similar tools.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop fire alarm, fire suppression, detection, and life safety systems per codes and standards.
• Prepare calculations, specs, drawings, and layouts for facilities.
• Review documents to ensure designs comply with NFPA, IBC, IFC, local codes, and client requirements.
• Conduct fire risk assessments and system evaluations to identify risks.
• Support commissioning, testing, inspection, and acceptance of systems.
• Investigate failures, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and AHJs throughout projects.
• Provide guidance and support for maintenance and upgrades of systems.
• Maintain project documentation and compliance records.
• Stay current on evolving fire protection technologies and best practices.
