Santa Fe County seeks a Fire Prevention/Code Enforcement team member to observe, learn, and assist in education, inspections, and plan reviews. You will participate in fire origin investigations, assist in field verification of documentation, and ensure compliance with fire codes during construction and operations.

Responsibilities include public education, safety presentations, handling inquiries, and continuing education to stay current in fire prevention practices within varied environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; Firefighter I certification; 1 year experience as active firefighter.
• EMT Basic license within 12 months of hire.
• Defensive driving certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to read and interpret building plans; communicate effectively; handle stress.

Responsibilities

• Observes, learns, and assists in fire prevention activities including public education and risk reduction administration.
• Observes and assists in fire safety education presentations.
• Conducts safety during activities per lesson plans.
• Assists in review of development submissions for code compliance and handles public inquiries.
• Observes and assists in fire inspection of new and existing structures for construction, occupancy, and protection systems.
• Assists in field verification of shop drawings and construction documents for code conformance.
• Assists in reviewing proposed installation of fire protection systems for code compliance.
• Attends continuing education to update knowledge in fire prevention.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Firefighter 1 certification
