Job summary

Bowman invites applications for a Fire Protection Intern in Johns Creek, GA. This role introduces you to fire protection engineering across commercial, government, and industrial projects, under supervision. Expect hands-on design tasks, field visits, and collaboration with engineers and project managers.

You will learn codes, participate in design reviews, and contribute to construction documents while developing professional skills in a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

  • Introductory study or knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT, CONTAM, and/or FDS modeling software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Enrolled in an ABET-accredited degree program, preferably in a fire protection engineering program of study.

Responsibilities

  • Lead under direct supervision and follow established procedures; work is reviewed by senior staff.
  • Interact with multiple departments and participate in intern program learning.
  • Observe and participate in fire protection design projects and site visits with engineers.
  • Design fire protection and life safety systems under engineer direction.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, and clients as needed.
  • Document field conditions and produce project construction documents within scheduled milestones.

Purpose

Introduction to all levels of fire protection engineering for commercial, government, academic, R&D, multi-family, and industrial projects.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Perform work under direct supervision of an experienced professional and follow established procedures and clearly defined processes. Receive direction on all aspects of assignments, specific tasks and how to execute. Work is thoroughly reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound techniques and principles.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Interact with multiple departments and peers within the organization and participate in intern program learning and development opportunities.

Do the Work

  • Observe and participate in the fire protection design projects.
  • Conduct site visits with engineers to perform flow tests.
  • Conduct construction administration site visits with engineers to document testing for sprinkler, fire alarm, and/or fire pump systems.
  • Design fire protection and life safety systems for various projects under the direction of an engineer
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project manager, and occasionally the client.
  • Conduct field observations visits to accurately document the existing field conditions.
  • Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget under direction of a senior engineer and project manager.
  • If directed, review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, change order proposals).
  • Review and learn codes applicable to the discipline.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
