Job summary

Jensen Hughes is seeking college interns for the Fire Protection Engineering department across numerous locations in the United States. The role supports life safety, fire protection, security and mass notification on commercial, institutional, and industrial projects worldwide.

Interns will develop drawings, analyze codes, perform basic calculations, and assist with field investigations, under supervision.

Qualifications

• Working toward a Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles or construction technology and practices.
• Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Possess intermediate-level written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

• Develops, modifies, and/or reviews drawings of systems or components to established standards.
• Develops plans, specifications, and inspection reports to ensure completeness and quality.
• Assist technically in resolving design problems including field investigations and coordination.
• Identify applicable codes and standards for evaluations.
• Conduct basic analyses (eg. egress, fire detection, smoke control) and hydraulic calculations.
• Perform basic calculations such as egress sizing and sprinkler water supplies.
• Communicate effectively with project team members and clients.
