Job summary

Jensen Hughes is seeking engineering interns to join the Fire Protection Engineering department at multiple locations across the United States. Interns will engage in life safety, fire protection, security, and mass notification services for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects worldwide.

Responsibilities include developing drawings, plans, and inspection reports, plus field investigations and design problem resolution.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical materials and regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication to write reports and respond to questions from managers and clients.
• Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions.

Responsibilities

• Develops, modifies, and/or reviews drawings of systems or components, according to established standards
• Develops plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to ensure completeness and accuracy
• Assist technically in resolving design problems including field investigations or inspections and coordination of design aspects
• Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating inquiries
• Conduct basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm system reviews, and hydraulic calculations
• Perform basic calculations such as egress sizing, maximum building area, sprinkler water supplies, and smoke control equipment
• Effectively communicate with project team members, clients, and others
