Job summary

The City of Worcester is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to lead enterprise fire protection engineering for the Worcester Fire Department. Reporting to the District Chief of Fire Prevention, you will set technical standards and oversee plan reviews for residential and commercial development, ensuring life safety compliance.

You will supervise engineering staff, collaborate with architects and contractors, and interpret state codes and NFPA standards while maintaining stringent documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering or related ABET program.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of Bluebeam or equivalent software.

Responsibilities

• Establish and implement fire protection standards for the City.
• Review plans and permits for residential and commercial projects.
• Direct and supervise engineering staff to ensure quality and accountability.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA, 527 CMR and 780 CMR during plan reviews and inspections.
• Provide technical input in appeals, enforcement actions, and litigation support.
• Conduct site visits, design meetings, and pre-permit conferences as required.
• Collaborate with other departments and agencies to interpret codes and regulations.
