Job summary

EwingCole in Philadelphia is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer in Training 1 to join our multi-disciplinary team focused on safe, innovative design. You will support project teams with life safety planning, code studies, and documentation for complex projects under guidance from senior engineers.

The role emphasizes CFD/egress modeling, fire protection design, and compliance with NFPA and IBC codes. Ideal candidates hold a BS in fire protection or architectural engineering, 0–3 years of

Qualifications

  • BS in Fire Protection Engineering or Architectural Engineering required.
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with analysis/design of building fire safety systems.
  • Familiarity with NFPA codes and IBC/IFC recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Architect with Code Studies and Life Safety Plans.
  • Prepare Fire Suppression and Fire Alarm contract documents under guidance of the Fire Protection Engineer.
  • Assist with code reviews.
  • Assist Project Architect with egress, construction types, barrier selection and other building attributes.
  • Review sprinkler and fire alarm shop drawings.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required.

We are looking for a Fire Protection Engineer in Training 1 to join our team in our Philadelphia office.

Essential Functions
  • Support Project Architect (PA) with Code Studies and prepare Life Safety Plans.
  • Prepare Fire Suppression and Fire Alarm contract documents for complex projects under the direction of the Fire Protection Engineer.
  • Assist with code reviews.
  • Assist Project Architect with egress, construction types, barrier selection and other building attributes.
  • Sprinkler and Fire Alarm system shop drawing review.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering
  • 0 – 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in analysis and/or design of building fire safety systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and design skills in suppression and detection
  • Experience with ICC (IBC, IFC) model building codes and NFPA 13, 72, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with Building and Fire Codes
  • Prior use of CFD and Egress modeling (FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder)
  • Smoke control design experience
  • Structural fire analysis experience
  • Technical knowledge and application
  • Working knowledge of relevant software, including Microsoft Office Suite, FDS, Autocad/Revit
  • Computer analysis skills
