Job description

Fire Protection Engineering is all we do, and we love it.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone that loves their work, loves to have fun, wants to learn, and knows enough to be dangerous. An ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science Degree in fire protection engineering or a related engineering field and will have 6-10 years of experience, 4 years specifically in fire protection. Experience in consulting is highly desirable and the ability to work in Revit and/or AutoCAD is icing on the cake.

Who We Are

We are a small firm, but don’t call us a startup – we are way past that. It’s our ambition to change the world, but right now we are focusing on changing the way buildings get designed and built.

We are jack-of-all trades fire protection engineers. No two projects are alike; no two clients do the same thing. Our clients include the government, hospitals, commercial, education, owners, architects, and engineers on all sorts of projects. Our project list includes gigantic hospitals and huge airport terminals, but also smaller labs, apartments, and office buildings.

We pride ourselves on being technologically advanced and we’re not afraid to break out a fire model or get all nerdy with agent-based evacuation models.

Our strategic plan revolves around the notion that you are the next owner of the company. We want to do more than pay lip service to work-life balance, and we have dedicated a lot of time and effort to create an environment where we can love our work but let it occupy an appropriate place in our lives.

Key Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position will have the following education, credentials and experience:

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Engineering degree in fire protection engineering or a related engineering field,
  • At least four years of experience within the field (fire protection & code consulting), up to ten years in the industry,
  • Professional licensure in fire protection engineering,
  • At least two years of experience in code consulting utilizing common model codes to assess compliance,
  • Experience designing fire suppression and fire alarm systems, including construction period (e.g., RFI, submittal reviews and system testing), and
  • Client-facing experience including project coordination and communications.
Desired Candidate Traits
  • A passion for fire protection and life safety is of utmost importance.
  • Tenacity and a knack for and execution. If you have the right idea – explore it, communicate it, and stick with it.
  • Communication skills are of upmost importance. Understanding the balance between knowing when to share and when to listen is essential.
  • Knowing what to ask and when to ask it. We all have limits to our abilities.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Understanding how to keep moving towards a common goal while simultaneously getting the information you need.
Responsibility & Growth

Each day will be different. Some days you will be in the office all day surrounded by our innovative team. Other days, you’ll bounce from site visit to client meetings to another site visit and then to a project interview. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Report writing – to communicate to our clients what to expect for safety and compliance.
  • Talking to clients on the phone – to help them feel good about fire and life safety stuff.
  • Drawing development – a picture is worth a thousand words and we have a lot to say.
  • Collaborating with clients at meetings – but most importantly, listening to their needs.
  • Calculations – sometimes we like to be nerds.
  • Site visits – sometimes we chew gum and kick tires, mostly just take notes.
  • Reviewing someone else’s drawings – we are integrators above all else.
  • Flying somewhere else – our projects take us all over the country.
  • Attending networking events and industry meetings – they need to know we’re here.
  • Showing up at the occasional training session – we don’t know everything.
  • Having fun with the team – we love what we do.

Your advancement path, beyond just gaining experience, has at least two paths: (1) project management where you could eventually become our Director of Operations, or other senior leadership, (2) technical directorship if you find a specialty that just suits your soul and you are less fond of accounting.

What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary. Our benefits are adaptable to your needs and include Health Insurance, Dental Insurance and a 401k + matching.

We provide a flexible, alternative schedule. You will have a personal day every two weeks to live your life and enjoy all that Colorado has to offer. Your paid time off is discretionary and not set to an arbitrary limit.

Our office is located in urban Denver, in the bustling RiNo neighborhood. It’s easy to get to by bike, bus, train, llama or on foot; if you really want, you can even drive a good ol’ fashioned car here. Remote or hybrid work is welcome, but the extent of it will be dependent on experience level; candidates with more experience in project management, client management and business development can be afforded more remote opportunities.
