Job summary

Mott MacDonald in Los Angeles is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our Building Structures Group. The role involves designing fire protection systems, evaluating egress and smoke control, and preparing drawings and calculations under supervision.

The candidate should have a CA PE, 5+ years of experience, and familiarity with NFPA standards and building codes. Travel to client sites and after-hours meetings may be required; hybrid in-office work is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection or Mechanical engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
• 5+ years of experience in fire protection engineering.
• Licensed Fire Protection Engineer (PE) in CA with potential to obtain licenses in other states.
• Proficiency navigating building codes including California Building Code, IBC, and NFPA standards.
• Experience in egress analysis and dynamic modeling software.
• Familiarity with ventilation and smoke control systems.
• Ability to travel to clients and job sites; meetings after hours may be required.

Responsibilities

• Design fire protection systems and prepare drawings and specifications under supervision of senior engineers.
• Lead tasks and supervise junior engineers; verify design and contract documents.
• Perform studies, evaluations, and preliminary fire protection designs.
• Prepare contract documents including drawings, specs, and calculations.
• Provide design services during construction including submittals and RFIs; support proposal development.
• Manage projects and client interactions.
