Exponent seeks a Fire Protection Engineer to join its Thermal Sciences Practice for location options including Natick, MA among others. You will participate in and lead investigations of failures across structures, vehicles, and industrial systems, applying thermodynamics and combustion knowledge to analyze safety and performance.

The role requires expertise in fire protection design, testing, and code compliance, with strong communication skills and hands-on project execution.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
• Work experience and/or internship in Fire Protection Engineering is highly desirable.
• Strong technical background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and combustion.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Hands-on experience executing experimental programs.
• Hands-on experience in fire protection system design, installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance is a plus.
• Experience with prescriptive and/or performance-based analysis and NFPA/ICC codes is preferred.

Responsabilités

• Evaluate fire protection, fire detection, and life safety system performance.
• Review fire protection codes and standards.
• Conduct laboratory assessments of material flammability.
• Plan and execute experimental test programs.
• Perform engineering calculations and analyses.
• Conduct fieldwork for investigations.
• Prepare proposals and technical reports and present findings to clients.
