Job summary

W3Global is seeking a creative fire protection engineer to support our Fire Protection Team. The role involves designing fire suppression, detection/alarm and life safety systems, plus field inspections and commissioning.

Responsibilities include coordinating projects, managing scope, schedule and budget, and communicating with architects, contractors, and owners to ensure compliant, safe designs. Travel to projects (15–40%) is expected.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years experience in fire protection (preferred).
  • Knowledge of governing industry standards such as NFPA, IBC and others.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction documents; apply NFPA standards to design/layout.
  • Compile complete design analyses including fire hazard classifications, fuel load calculations, occupancy classification, means of egress, hydraulic data.
  • Advise architects, contractors, and owners on fire prevention and code requirements; present solutions to owners.

Job description

The client is offering relocation assistance for this role.

Job

Client is looking for a creative and innovative fire protection engineer to help support our growing Fire Protection Team. The successful candidate will be involved in the design of fire suppression, fire detection/alarm and life safety systems including performing of field construction inspections and acceptance testing.

Additional duties include: meeting and site work attendance; overall management and supervision of projects; ability to market to potential clients; and quality control to ensure designs are in accordance with governing industry codes and standards.

This position is primarily responsible for coordinating, implementing, executing, controlling and completing projects, ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments and goals, by performing core duties and responsibilities listed below. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret construction documents, including drawings, specifications and contracts. Interpret and apply applicable NFPA Standards to the design/layout based on building type, hazard classification, architectural characteristics, etc.
  • Ability to compile a complete design analysis including fire hazard classifications, fuel load calculations, classification of occupancy, partition/separations requirements, means of egress provisions, hydraulic data, fire detection/alarm, mass notification, and smoke management passive and active systems
  • Advise architects, contractors, and owners on fire prevention, code review, education of code requirements, and present the best solution for the owner while educating them on the risks associated with design decisions
  • Perform field investigations of completed design to verify accuracy of design and perform/witness acceptance testing/commissioning Manage project scope, schedule and budget
Requirement
  • Previous experience in the fire protection industry (minimum five years preferred).
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Fire Protection Engineering (preferred) Knowledge of governing industry standards such as NFPA, IBC and others Good interpersonal and communication skills combined with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be responsible, personable, detail oriented, and self-motivated with solid organization and time management skills that lead to timely completion of projects Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Previous experience in the fire protection industry (minimum five years preferred) Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Fire Protection Engineering (preferred) Knowledge of governing industry standards such as NFPA, IBC and others Good interpersonal and communication skills combined with the ability to work with minimal supervision Must be responsible, personable, detail oriented, and self-motivated with solid organization and time management skills that lead to timely completion of projects Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously Proficiency in the use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

The position includes the potential for both stateside and international travel (15% to 40%).

The position will be based out of either the Olathe, Kansas (Kansas City) headquarters or our satellite office in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Candidates must successfully complete an employment background investigation and drug screening.

Compensation will be based on ability and experience, and will consist of a competitive salary along with a compensation and incentive program.
