Your Opportunity

Take the first step towards designing your career with Stantec. As a professional services firm, we are seeking Fire Protection Engineers to join our growing North America Fire Protection Engineering Team. We are better together.

Fire Protection Engineers (FPEs) protect lives and property. They plan and design engineering projects that prevent fires from occurring and minimize the impact of those fires that do occur. FPEs recommend materials, equipment, and systems to safeguard life and property against fire, analyze fire behavior, and model safety features. They assess fire protection needs, document these in design reports, create design documents including CAD/BIM drawings, and perform inspections and testing during construction to ensure compliance and functionality.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Apply fire protection engineering concepts through investigation and analysis for designing fire suppression, detection, alarm, and smoke control systems, including material and egress strategies.
  • Perform calculations using standard and proprietary software.
  • Support design decisions with gathered information.
  • Prepare engineering designs, drawings, specifications, reports, and presentations under guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with other design professionals in project delivery.
  • Support construction activities including inspections and testing.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by senior staff.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Knowledge of building and fire codes, NFPA standards.
  • Understanding of active/passive fire protection systems.
  • Ability to collaborate within project teams.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Revit, AutoCAD; experience with modeling software is a plus.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering or related field.
  • 4-10 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) or working towards licensure.

Work environment includes office work and potential field exposure. This description is not exhaustive and may include other duties.
