Job summary

HDR is seeking a Fire Protection Designer/EIT to contribute on fire protection design portions of projects under the guidance of a Senior Fire Protection Engineer, meeting with clients and contractors, and coordinating with designers and drafters.

Preferred qualifications include an EIT and NICET certification, 2+ years in Fire & Life Safety design, and a Bachelor's in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering; HDR values an active participant in our employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Assist on fire protection portions of projects under the direction of a Senior Fire Protection Engineer.
• Meet with clients and contractors.
• Interpret engineering data for designers and drafters.
• Check drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Monitor project schedules and budgets.
• Review applicable codes and record them for the design record.
• Coordinate work with other disciplines and consultants.
• Check contract documents and shop drawings; respond to RFIs.
• Assist in writing specifications with the Technical Services Department.

In the role of Fire Protection Designer/EIT, we'll count on you to:

• Assist on the fire protection portions of projects under the direction of a Senior Fire Protection Engineer
• Meet with clients and contractors
• Interpret engineering data for designers and drafters
• Check the drawings on a continuing basis to ensure accuracy and completeness, and promote the skills of designers and drafters
• Monitor the schedule and budgets for projects
• Review and summarize applicable codes, and record them for inclusion in the design record
• Coordinate work with other disciplines and consultants
• Check contract documents and shop drawings, and answer requests for information
• Assist in writing the specifications in conjunction with the Technical Services Department
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
• Candidates without their EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
• A minimum of 2 years Fire & Life Safety design experience in systems design or regulatory enforcement
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering consulting firm or former role specific to Fire & Life Safety
• NICET certification

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
