Job summary

The City of Savannah is seeking a Fire Plans Examiner to review construction plans, assess compliance with fire and life safety codes, and guide projects through permitting processes.

You will perform plan reviews for new builds, renovations, and fire protection systems, provide code interpretations to architects and engineers, conduct field inspections, and support training efforts to keep staff and contractors up to date with current standards.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED with three years of experience enforcing Fire Prevention Codes.
• Must possess Georgia State Inspector Certification or obtain within twelve (12) months of employment.
• Fire Plans Examiner certification through ICC, NFPA, or other recognized certifying bodies is preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Review construction plans, specifications, and permit applications for compliance with local, state, and national fire and life safety codes and standards.
• Interpret and apply codes to plans and projects; research requirements and recommend methods and materials.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and City departments on plan deficiencies and code issues.
• Document plan review comments, approvals, permits, and related records in electronic systems.
• Conduct field inspections and witness tests to verify compliance.
• Provide training and educational presentations on fire and life safety codes to staff, contractors, and the public.
