Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking candidates to train as an Assistant Fire Marshal. The role involves learning fire investigation and inspection methods, assisting with investigations in the field, and ensuring compliance with fire safety codes.

Travel across WV is required and work may occur in hazardous conditions. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree or a high school diploma with four years of related experience, plus the ability to obtain law enforcement certification per WV Code.

Qualifications

• All new hires must successfully complete a psychological examination.
• All new hires must successfully complete a medical examination.
• All new hires must successfully complete a physical performance test.
• All new hires must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis drug-screening test.

Responsibilities

• Learn proper methods of fire investigation and inspection through classroom and field work.
• Assist with fire investigations and inspections in the field.
• Work with businesses to ensure compliance with fire safety codes and assist with follow-up inspections.
• Travel within an assigned geographic region of West Virginia and work in potentially hazardous conditions.
