Job summary

Wake Forest University is seeking a dedicated Fire Safety Technician to perform reactive and preventive maintenance for campus life-safety systems. You will inspect, test, and maintain fire protection and detection systems, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and university standards.

The role requires 3–5 years in fire prevention and life-safety fields, a valid driver's license, and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 3–5 years’ experience in fire safety.
• 3–5 years experience in fire prevention, fire safety inspection, or life safety.
• Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA and related fire and life safety regulations.
• Valid driver's license.
• Able to meet university vehicle insurance requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and training presentation abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and test fire protection/detection systems for compliance.
• Troubleshoot and arrange repair of defective fire safety equipment and elevators.
• Inspect buildings for life-safety and fire-safety compliance.
• Respond to emergencies in mechanical, electrical, and structural systems.
• Maintain and inspect extinguishers, alarms, and sprinklers.
• Coordinate with contractors and review their work for code compliance.
• Assist in development of emergency procedures and training.
• Maintain records and prepare inspection/maintenance reports.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager.
