Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University seeks a seasoned Fire & Life Safety Engineer to lead the institution's fire safety program. You will partner with EHS, Facilities, and capital projects to evaluate system performance, identify gaps, and drive compliant, reliable life-safety solutions.

You will serve as a technical resource for codes and design intent, coordinate with AHJs, and mentor teams on risk reduction and lifecycle management.

Qualifications

  • This position requires a bachelor's degree in fire protection engineering or related topics and 5 years of related experience.
  • Expert knowledge of fire protection engineering principles, building codes, and life-safety standards (NFPA, ASHRAE).
  • Ability to interpret regulations, manage design review, and communicate complex requirements.
  • Experience coordinating with AHJs, engineering teams, and facilities on capital projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fire and life safety systems program management across departments.
  • Evaluate system performance, identify gaps, and develop strategic compliance plans.
  • Provide guidance on design intent, code application, and project reviews.
  • Coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction for plan reviews and inspections.
  • Deliver training and advisory services on fire safety policies.
  • Assist in policy development and continuous improvement of safety programs.
