Job summary

UL Solutions in the United States is seeking an inspector to assess fire and life safety systems for compliance with local and international building codes. The role covers Commercial, Industrial, Residential, and Hospitality sectors, with travel to sites and meetings with building owners and managers.

You will read codes, manuals, drawings, and specifications; report deviations; stay current with codes; uphold ethics and safety; and perform other duties as directed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Safety Engineering or equivalent.
• Five years’ experience as an inspector, building contractor, engineer or related trade.
• ICC Combo commercial Inspector certification.
• Certified Electrical Plans Examiner.
• Knowledge to interpret building codes and identify non-compliant installations.
• Good verbal communication skills with customers.
• Excellent computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspects buildings for fire and life safety and fire protection systems to determine compliance with building codes.
• Buildings include Commercial, Industrial, Residential, and Hospitality sectors.
• Fire protection systems include fire suppression and fire detection and alarm systems.
• Reads and interprets building codes, technical manuals, drawings, instructions, and specifications.
• Identifies records and reports all deviations using tools provided.
• Travels to meet building owners and managers regarding codes and inspection procedures; responds to questions and explains policies.
• Follows up to verify corrections of violations and ensures compliance.
• Maintains current knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and standards; keeps up with changes and advances in the profession.
• The job requires business integrity, high ethical standards and safety compliance.
• The job involves travelling and meeting building owners/clients.
• Reads and follows UL Code of Conduct and security practices.
• Performs other duties as directed.
