Job summary

City of Deerfield Beach seeks a Fire Inspector to protect life and property through routine fire/life safety inspections and code enforcement. You will interpret regulations, inspect systems, and work with owners and the public in a dynamic public safety role.

The position requires Florida certifications, ability to review drawings, EMS readiness, and the capacity to respond to emergencies. Candidates must hold EMT and a valid FL driver license, with preferred Paramedic certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current State of Florida Firefighter Certificate of Compliance, Certificate of Statutory Compliance, or Certificate of Training.
• Current State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector I Certification.
• Valid State of Florida driver license with acceptable driving record.
• Must possess or obtain Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals certification as a Fire Inspector as a condition of probation.
• Must maintain all required licenses and certifications as a condition of employment.
• Current State of Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
• Preferred: Paramedic certification; Broward County Fire plans examiner certification; additional fire prevention/training.

Responsibilities

• Conducts yearly fire/life safety inspections of properties to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
• Inspects and tests fire/life safety and suppression systems and takes action when hazardous conditions are present.
• Documents inspection findings and prepares notices of violation and enforcement documentation.
• Represents the city before boards/courts to support enforcement of fire regulations.
• Reviews construction drawings to identify fire/life safety concerns and investigates origin and cause of fires.
