Job summary

North Slope Borough Fire Department seeks a qualified firefighter with supervisory experience to lead EMS and firefighting operations. The role involves responding to emergencies, supervising staff, and potentially acting as incident commander in the absence of the Village Fire Chief.

A strong emphasis on training, safety, and compliance with Alaska regulations is required. Candidates must meet Alaska certification requirements, hold a valid driver’s license, and be capable of coordinating

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED or equal combination of education and work experience.
• Three years paid or volunteer arctic firefighter experience.
• One year of supervisory work experience.
• Valid Alaska Driver's License meeting NSB insurance criteria.
• American Heart Association BLS or Alaska EMS equivalent; Emergency Trauma Technician certification.
• Alaska Rural Firefighter Operations certification or equivalent; ICS 100/200/700/800 Training.
• Ability to obtain AHA BLS Instructor certification or Alaska EMS equivalent within six months.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergencies and perform firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties.
• Operate, clean and inspect emergency, fire, rescue, medical and life saving tools and equipment.
• Maintain training and certifications through education opportunities and required training.
• Inspect and maintain breathing apparatus and air systems; coordinate refilling of cylinders.
• Oversee EMS operations in collaboration with the Village Fire Chief and department leadership.
• Perform quality assurance on patient care and incident reports for accuracy and compliance.
• Assist with department training and ensure adherence to lesson plans and schedules.
• Ensure apparatus checks and inventory/maintenance checklists are current.
• Serve as station HIPAA compliance officer and ensure required trainings are completed.
