Qualifications

Job description

Certified Fire Investigator / Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFI/CFEI) responsible for analyzing and interpreting fire and explosion scenes.


  • Perform analysis to determine the cause and origin of fires and explosions.
  • Convey findings clearly through written reports.
  • Defend opinions in court or legal settings when necessary.
  • Complete corporate training and development programs.
  • Mentor and train subordinate investigators.

  • Associates degree in a related field; experience may be considered for educational requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferred.
  • Must have CFEI certification through NAFI or CFI certification through IAAI (preferred).
  • Familiarity with NFPA 921 and qualification per NFPA 1033.
  • Minimum of 10 years in fire investigative duties, actively engaged in origin and cause analysis.
  • Previous expert testimony experience is preferred but not required, with proof of NFA or equivalent testimony training.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to deliver accurate, timely results.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and high-stress periods.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, roofs, and crawl in tight spaces.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and standards for pre-employment physicals.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Willingness to travel, work flexible hours, and work remotely with reliable high-speed internet.
