The Town of Apex invites applications for the position of Fire Inspector I at 315 West Williams Street, Apex, NC. This on-site role involves inspecting commercial and residential properties, enforcing fire codes, and educating the public on fire safety.

Salary range currently posted is approximately $71,492–$87,581 with a Monday–Friday schedule. The Fire Marshal oversees this position, which reports to the Fire Marshal and does not supervise staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Less than 1 year of related experience.
• Firefighter II certification required.
• Hazardous Materials Operations certification required.
• NIMS 100/200/700/800 certifications required.
• Fire Inspector I certification required.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fire inspections of businesses, schools, and residences for hazards.
• Enforce state building codes and NFPA codes during inspections.
• Schedule/perform annual inspections and issue deficient-condition reports.
• Answer questions from citizens, contractors and builders.
• Provide fire prevention education programs on request.
• Maintain accurate inspection records and data entry.
• Review construction plans for code compliance during construction.
• Perform firefighter duties on major fire calls as directed.
• Perform related duties as required.
