Job summary

Centerra Group is seeking a candidate for performing fire prevention duties under the Fire Chief's supervision. Responsibilities include assisting in developing fire safety standards and conducting public fire safety education programs.

The ideal candidate must be familiar with fire hazards and able to assist with the administration of fire prevention practices using their certifications. A commitment to safety and the well-being of the public is essential.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and understanding of fire prevention practices and codes.
  • Ability to recognize existing/potential fire hazards.
  • Minimum certifications required: Firefighter I & II, HazMat Awareness & Operations.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

To perform fire prevention visits under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief, under the direction of the Senior Fire Inspector. To assist the Fire and Life Safety Educational Program in the areas of public fire safety education and other related services for the protection of life and property from fire or other disaster. This position involves administrative work in the performance and direction of activities including compliance with administrative codes, laws and ordinances, policies, procedures and/or special instructions of the Client and Statement of Work (SOW).

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the operation of the fire prevention program under the Fire Chief, with day-to-day direction of the Senior Fire Inspector
  • Assist the Fire Chief in the development of standards for fire safety for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP)
  • Develop, conduct, and assist with evaluation of effective Fire and Life Safety Education in the presentation of public fire safety educational programs
  • Perform fire prevention visits/fire risk management
  • Prepare written reports of fire prevention visits, and other related fire prevention matters
  • Demonstrate knowledge of methods to perform fire prevention and education
  • Assist the Fire Chief in the review and approval of plans for construction, installation, and operation of equipment and structures so they meet the fire safety requirements
  • Communicate directly to the Senior Inspector, Fire Chief, and Fire Officers of the Department about Fire Prevention related matters ultimately keeping the Fire Chief apprised of all current or historic fire safety hazards/deficiencies. Hazardous conditions shall be reported, logged, corrected, and sent to the client Security Manager as required per the current SOW
  • Communication to other Department members and personnel outside of LCAAP F&E shall be under the direction of the Fire Chief for Fire Prevention related matters
  • Typically assigned as the Fire Officer on the second-due engine
  • Perform other related duties or procedures as assigned
  • Ability to work during inclement weather
  • Subject to high noise levels
  • Subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
  • Must be willing to work a 24-hour on/48-hour off schedule with occasional greater work periods as mission needs dictate
  • Must have visual and audio acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment, machines such as fire equipment and apparatuses
  • May be subject to outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures and weather
  • Required to be fitted for and wear a respirator when appropriate
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, often without breaks, and may be required to climb stairs or ladders and walk-up inclines and on uneven terrain.
  • Must meet all physical and psychological standards as required by the contract
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of fire prevention practices
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of fire prevention codes and ordinances, fire hazards and the methods and techniques of fire inspections; ability to research specific subject areas and the ability to interpret fire codes and ordinances
  • Ability to recognize existing/potential fire hazards in a wide variety of structures and facilities
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of building construction
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships all internal/external customers
  • Ability to conduct public education activities, and share ideas across various media
  • Minimum requirements are IFSAC and/or Pro Board certification for:
    • Firefighter - I & II
    • HazMat - Awareness & Operations
    • Fire Officer - I
    • Fire Instructor - I
    • Fire Inspector - I & II
  • Additionally, must possess:
    • Current NREMT certification
    • Current Missouri EMT License
    • Current BLS (CPR w/AED) certification
    • FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
  • Must meet medical clearance requirements IAW NFPA, DoD F&E, and contract
  • Oral and written communication skills necessary for accurate documentation of various required reports; communicating with the department, LCAAP officials, and the public
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and skills
  • Possess a valid Missouri Driver License
