Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Amarillo, TX, is seeking a Fire Extinguisher & Kitchen Hood Technician who can operate independently, perform inspections, maintenance, and service on portable fire protection equipment, and ensure compliance with codes and company standards.

You will document services, travel to sites, and work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments while upholding safety policies and delivering reliable customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in fire and life safety as apprentice or technician.
• Type K - Kitchen Cooking Systems License (FEL-K) required.
• Able to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
• Strong understanding of portable fire protection equipment and applicable codes.
• Must have a clean driving record and active driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire extinguishers and kitchen hood systems independently.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision while ensuring quality and compliance.
• Conduct annual inspections, maintenance, and assist with testing as required.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures.
• Accurately document services performed, including tagging and reporting.
• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to customers and supervisors.
• Maintain and properly use tools, equipment, and service vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job status and findings.
• Maintain a high level of safety awareness and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Perform work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Use hand tools and testing equipment.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

The Fire Extinguisher & Kitchen Hood Technician is capable of independently performing core technical responsibilities related to portable fire protection equipment. This role is responsible for completing standard inspections, maintenance, and service work without direct supervision while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and company standards. The technician is expected to demonstrate strong technical competency, reliability, and customer service.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work for extended periods.
