Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a Hood/Portables Service Technician to perform inspections, maintenance, and service on portable fire protection equipment, including kitchen hood systems, with minimal supervision.

The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and on-site customer communication, requiring the ability to work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments and travel to job sites as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of experience in fire and life safety industry preferred.
• NICET Level I or above preferred.
• Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
• Strong understanding of portable fire protection equipment and applicable codes.
• Must have a clean driving record and active driver’s license (if driving role).

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire extinguishers and hood systems independently.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision while ensuring quality and compliance.
• Conduct annual inspections, maintenance, and assist with testing as required.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures.
• Accurately document services performed, including tagging and reporting.
• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to customers and supervisors.

The Hood/Portables Service Technician is capable of independently performing core technical responsibilities related to portable fire protection equipment.

This role is responsible for completing standard inspections, maintenance, and service work without direct supervision while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and company standards.

The Hood/Portables Service Technician is expected to demonstrate technical competency, reliability, and customer service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire extinguishers, kitchen hood systems, and related equipment independently.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision while ensuring quality and compliance.
• Conduct annual inspections, maintenance, and assist with testing as required.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures.
• Accurately document services performed, including tagging and reporting.
• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to customers and supervisors.
• Maintain and properly use tools, equipment, and service vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job status and findings.
• Maintain a high level of safety awareness and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Perform work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Use hand tools and testing equipment.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Education/Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of experience in the fire and life safety industry as an apprentice or technician preferred.
• NICET Level I or above preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
• Strong understanding of portable fire protection equipment and applicable codes.
• Must have a clean driving record and active driver’s license (if driving role).

Other Duties:

• Adheres to the Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Agreement, and Company Safety Policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various environments.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
• Work performed in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Exposure to varying conditions including heights, confined spaces, and active job sites.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work for extended periods.

Compensation:

• $19 - $22hourly depending on experience
