Job summary

The City of Valdosta in Georgia is seeking a Fire Mechanic to maintain and repair department vehicles and equipment, including fire pumps and aerial ladders. You will diagnose and fix mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues, perform routine maintenance, and weld components as needed.

You will estimate parts and time, keep daily maintenance logs, and ensure work aligns with safety standards and city policies. A valid GA driver's license and EVTC certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience with a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of oils and lubricants for different makes.
• Knowledge of work safety principles.
• Specialized training in the field and basic education as stated.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine maintenance and preventative care on department vehicles and equipment.
• Evaluates mechanical problems using diagnostic equipment.
• Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, engine, fuel, cooling, HVAC, brake and suspension issues and repairs.
• Rebuilds, replaces or repairs major vehicle components.
• Performs welding to repair body components.
• Estimates time and materials needed and researches parts diagrams.
• Maintains daily log of maintenance actions.
• Performs maintenance on fire pumps and annual pump tests.
• Assists with annual aerial ladder tests.
• Performs related duties.
