Job summary

Gwinnett County is seeking an experienced diesel/automotive mechanic to support the Business Services Division in maintaining and repairing fire apparatus and related equipment. Responsibilities include maintenance scheduling, record-keeping, and performing repairs and tests on vehicles and rescue tools.

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree in Diesel or Automotive Repair, at least three years of progressive mechanic experience, and must obtain a valid Class A/B/E/F driver’s license

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Diesel or Automotive Repair is required.
• Three years of progressively responsible mechanic experience is required.
• Permanent Class A, B, E or F driver’s license must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Maintains appropriate stock and supply levels.
• Prepares a variety of fire apparatus standards and reports.
• Notifies appropriate personnel of preventative maintenance schedules for fire apparatus vehicles and equipment; prepares related paperwork and ensures delivery of vehicles to fleet maintenance facilities.
• Coordinates equipment installations; participates in installing equipment such as mobile data terminals and radios.
• Repairs and maintains apparatus hoses and nozzles.
• Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on applicable rescue tools.
• Conducts annual tests for fire apparatus; records and maintains test results.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Education

Associate degree in Diesel or Automotive Repair

Three years of progressively responsible mechanic experience

Permanent Class A, B, E or F driver's license must be obtained within 90 days of hire

Equivalent combination of education and experience
