Job summary

City of Oxnard seeks a Fire Engineer to drive and operate fire apparatus, ensure operational readiness, and perform inspections and training. The role requires driving, equipment operation, and participation in fire prevention activities.

The incumbent may train others, perform station duties, and respond to emergencies with sound judgment. A strong background in fire technology and multiple certifications is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 15 college units in Fire Technology/Fire Science or Fire Apparatus Operator 1A cert.
• Three years of full-time paid firefighter experience with Oxnard FD.
• California driver license per CA Vehicle Code 12804.11+; Class C with Oxnard endorsement; Class A or B with endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate fire apparatus and rescue equipment.
• Inspect and test apparatus for readiness; maintain records and report repairs.
• Provide training for lower level personnel and assist in drills.
• Respond to emergencies and public education events; conduct station tours.
