Job summary

The City of McAllen is seeking a dedicated Emergency Communications Operator to receive emergency and non-emergency calls for information and assistance via telephone, radio, and teletype. The role involves directing calls to immediate sources, maintaining status information on police, fire and EMS units, and operating complex computer and network systems, telephones, and recording devices.

Work is performed under close supervision per established procedures.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to receive emergency and non-emergency calls for information and assistance via the telephone radio and tele-type. ECS directs all calls to an immediate source of assistance, maintains a constant status information on all police, fire and emergency medical units, operates complex computers and network functions, telephone equipment, radios, recording devices, and other technical equipment, and monitors activities in several areas of the complex for security. This job works under close supervision according to set procedures.
