Job summary

County Emergency Communications in Arlington, MA is seeking skilled Fire Dispatchers to coordinate responses to fires, rescues, and other emergencies. You will receive incident details, verify locations, alert units, and monitor radio channels to support responders.

This role requires strong data entry, calm communication under pressure, and adherence to established protocols. Evening and overnight shifts, weekends, and overtime may be required to ensure coverage during major incidents.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Dispatch certification or EMS training may be required for certain postings.
Strong data entry and computer skills are expected.

Responsibilities

Receive and document reports of fires, rescues, alarms, and hazardous conditions.
Verify incident locations, access information, and reported risks.
Alert stations and dispatch apparatus using approved response assignments.
Monitor radio channels, unit availability, and incident status.
Relay information about occupants, hazards, and changing conditions.
Process requests for additional resources through established procedures.
Coordinate mutual-aid communications when assigned.
Record dispatch times, unit movements, and significant incident updates.
