Job summary

The Village of Lombard seeks an experienced Fire Chief to lead the Fire Department, manage a $17.4 million budget, and advance fire and EMS services for the community. This role directs operations, oversees personnel, and represents the Village in interagency collaborations.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s in fire science or related field (master preferred), 7–9 years in firefighting with 3–5 years in supervision, and strong leadership, writing, and public speaking skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Fire Protection/Safety, Fire Engineering, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
• 7–9 years of progressively responsible firefighting, fire rescue, fire prevention and education experience; 3–5 years supervisory.
• Innovative, collaborative fire/EMS leader with staff management and customer service skills.
• Ability to develop strong relationships with surrounding Fire/EMS agencies for comprehensive service.
• Excellent writing and public speaking skills with high integrity and vision.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency situations and may direct fire/rescue operations.
• Coordinate Emergency Preparedness activities for large-scale responses.
• Investigate fire causes and submit reports as required.
• Interpret and administer firefighter collective bargaining agreement and personnel manual.
• Enforce Village fire protection codes and liaise with Village and public.
• Represent the Village in meetings with governmental agencies and organizations.
• Attend night meetings and Village events as required.
• Report to the Village Manager and be part of the Village’s executive management team.
