Job summary

International Association-Fire Chiefs seeks an executive to plan, direct, and oversee the Fire Department, including prevention, suppression, and the communications center. The leader will coordinate with City departments and external agencies while providing high-level administrative support to the City Administrator.

The role requires long-term strategic management, policy development, and strong collaboration with senior managers to ensure responsive and cost-effective emergency services

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in public administration, emergency management, or fire science.
• Twelve (12) or more years of combined education and experience in personnel management, fire suppression and prevention, and incident command.
• Experience with city government and knowledge of department function operations.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and a State and Federal criminal background check.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee the Fire Department's overall operations and strategic direction.
• Supervise personnel, train staff, and coordinate labor relations as needed.
• Manage department budget, goals, and performance metrics.
• Coordinate with City departments and outside agencies, and prepare staff reports.
