Job summary

City of Winchester, Virginia Local Government seeks a Fire & Rescue Captain to lead a designated station, supervise personnel, and respond to medical, fire, and hazardous incidents. The role includes training, public education, and equipment maintenance, with acting Battalion Chief backup as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year as a company officer in a career department.
• Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Certifications: Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II, EVOC III, DPO, DAO, Mayday Firefighter Down, HazMat Ops.
• OEMS EMT/AEMT/Paramedic preferred; OEMS certification required for attendant in charge.
• NIMS 100/200/700/800 and ICS 300/400.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Direct supervision for assigned station and personnel.
• Conduct performance evaluations for subordinates.
• Schedule personnel, assign duties, and maintain records.
• Lead shift training program and maintain personnel records.
• Coordinate with Battalion Chief for guidance and supervision.
• Serve as backup Battalion Chief when needed.
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide EMS care per local protocols.
• Respond to fires and hazards, apply suppression methods, and perform rescue operations.
• Determine cause and origin at fire scenes.
• Assist with hazardous materials and technical rescue responses.
