Job summary

The Cathedral City Fire and EMS seeks a Fire Captain to plan, coordinate, and supervise the emergency and non-emergency activities of a fire station during an assigned shift to protect lives and property. This first-level supervisor role includes fire suppression, EMS response, fire prevention, and related department functions, reporting to the Battalion Chief.

Requirements include a high school diploma, five years of municipal fire experience, California firefighter certifications, a valid CA

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with courses in Fire Science or related field.
• Five (5) years of paid municipal fire experience in suppression and prevention.
• Successful completion of California State Fire Training Apparatus Driver/Operator IA and IB.
• Valid California Class B license, or Class C with firefighter endorsement; clean driving record.
• Certification as Firefighter I and Firefighter II.
• Current CPR certificate.
• CA EMT or Paramedic certification/licensure for Riverside County.
• ICS-300 and ICS-400 training completed by end of probation.
• Fire Marshal Fire Officer I Certificate or coursework with final certification by probation end.
• Complete assigned Task-book by end of probation.
• Advanced management leadership training desirable.
• AA or BA degree in fire science or related field desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, assigns, and supervises the emergency and non-emergency activities of a fire station during an assigned shift to protect life and property.
• Supervises station staff directly and serves as a station administrator; oversees fire suppression, EMS response, and fire prevention duties.
