Job summary

City of Bastrop (TX) seeks a Fire Engineer (Driver) to operate fire apparatus, perform pump operations, and support fire suppression, EMS, and rescue. The role requires driving expertise, strong technical skills, and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.

Responsibilities include vehicle operations, preventive maintenance, and collaboration with a shift officer to ensure readiness and safety at all times. EMS certification (EMT-B) and TCFP credentials are mandatory.

Qualifications

• Class B or higher Texas Driver’s License required and must be maintained.
• TCFP Driver/Operator certifications required for pump and aerial equipment.
• EMT-B certification required; Basic Fire certification also required.

Responsibilities

• Drive/respond to emergency and non-emergency calls; operate fire apparatus.
• Perform fire suppression duties and hose handling; pump operations and hydraulics knowledge.
• Enter burning buildings and assist in rescue operations when needed.
• Ventilate buildings, assist in salvage/overhaul, and position apparatus safely at incidents.
• Maintain apparatus readiness and perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
